Who is Lobster Snowboards?

Lobster Snowboards is a rider-driven snowboard brand that was founded in 2010 by professional snowboarders Halldór and Eiki Helgason, two of the most influential and creative snowboarders from Iceland. Known for their bold riding style and progression in freestyle snowboarding, the Helgason brothers wanted to create a brand that reflected their personal approach to the sport—fun, creativity, and a bit of rebellion.

Founding story

The idea behind Lobster Snowboards emerged when the Helgason brothers sought to create boards that better suited their unique riding style. After leaving their sponsorships with other brands, they decided to start their own company, which would allow them complete creative freedom.

The name "Lobster" was chosen as a fun, quirky name that broke away from typical snowboarding brand conventions, emphasizing their playful and unconventional approach to the sport.

Halldór and Eiki Helgason are both well-known for their groundbreaking video parts, progressive tricks, and ability to push the boundaries of freestyle snowboarding. This influence is deeply embedded in Lobster Snowboards' DNA, with a focus on creating boards that thrive in park, street, and freestyle environments. Their fame as riders brought immediate attention to the brand. Halldór’s daring, fearless approach, and Eiki’s technical, stylish tricks were reflected in the design and functionality of their boards.

Technology used

One of the key elements that set Lobster apart was its use of Triple Base Technology (3BT). This innovative tech features a 3D profile that lifts the edges of the snowboard's nose and tail, allowing for better float in powder, smoother turns, and reduced chances of edge-catching.

3BT gave Lobster Snowboards a unique selling point, especially for riders looking for versatility between freestyle and all-mountain riding. It enhanced the playfulness of the boards while maintaining edge control and stability.

Visual identity

Lobster has always been known for its wild and unconventional board graphics, which reflect the Helgason brothers' personalities. From cartoonish artwork to bold, provocative designs, the graphics on Lobster boards have a distinct look that sets them apart in the market. This visual identity became a hallmark of the brand, resonating with younger riders who appreciate bold designs that challenge traditional snowboard aesthetics.

Lobster Snowboards' primary focus is on freestyle and park riding, offering a variety of models designed for terrain parks, street snowboarding, and jibbing. The boards are known for their flexibility, durability, and ability to perform in urban and freestyle environments. While Lobster boards are heavily park-oriented, many models are versatile enough to handle all-mountain riding as well.

Lobster Snowboards has released several signature models, including pro models for Halldór and Eiki Helgason, tailored specifically to their riding styles. Halldór’s pro models typically reflect his focus on big jumps and creative tricks, while Eiki’s models cater to more technical street riding and jibs, emphasizing durability and precision.

The Lobster team

In addition to the Helgason brothers, Lobster has built a strong team of riders over the years, many of whom are known for their innovative tricks and contributions to freestyle snowboarding.

The Lobster team reflects the brand’s emphasis on progression, creativity, and pushing the limits of freestyle snowboarding.

Brand expansion

Since its launch, Lobster Snowboards has expanded its global reach, selling in shops around the world. The brand has maintained its core identity, focusing on freestyle riding, while gradually growing its product line and market presence. Lobster’s unique combination of innovative technology, bold graphics, and the influence of the Helgason brothers has helped it stand out in the crowded snowboard market.

Lobster has engaged in various collaborations over the years, partnering with other snowboard-related brands, artists, and riders to create limited-edition boards and gear. The brand has also been involved in snowboarding events, sponsoring competitions and video projects that align with their core values of creativity and progression in the sport.

Lobster Snowboards represents the independent spirit of snowboarding, driven by the personalities and creativity of Halldór and Eiki Helgason. The brand has influenced the way freestyle snowboarding is perceived, focusing on fun, progression, and pushing boundaries both in riding and design. By incorporating groundbreaking technology like 3BT and maintaining an unorthodox visual identity, Lobster has carved out a niche in the snowboarding world, appealing to riders who prioritize style, innovation, and creativity.

Merging with YES Snowboards and NOW bindings seems like the next logical step for Lobster to take future creativity and fun to new levels of stoke and awesomeness.
